Amidst the holiday preparations nature has yet again smoothly changed
seasons. The winter solstice has arrived in the Northern Hemisphere, and
the official first day of winter is upon us. Hence, let’s celebrate the shortest
day of the year with the longest night by reading Winter’s Solstice, a poem
by Marie Helen. Enjoy the poem everyone, and seasons greetings!
Winter’s Solstice
By
Marie Helen Abramyan
Seated at horizon, behind pillows of grey; Warm beams drowned by billowing cumulus at play. A brief day’s quietude for the blazing giant, Who through seasons never sleeps, but remains defiant. Strewn cones and seeds, like festive confetti scattered, A Magnolia tree’s signal that frosty winds have gathered. As darkness sets in, and twinkling stars line the skies, A new scent of air evelops the time that flies. The moment has come, the frigid arrival is here, With the long solstice night, Winter days will appear.
